Digital thermostats are powered in one of two ways: Either with batteries or with the power from the main system. If powered by batteries, every now and then your thermostat will warn you that the batteries will need to be changed.
This process is very simple for the most part and can be done by you!

Its coming up to the change of seasons.. Great opportunity to replace the batteries in your thermostat.

The process can differ slightly for different brands of thermostat, but for the most part the way you go about it is the same. I’ll go over a couple different ways for different Honeywell thermostats.
At Dynamic Heating and Cooling we have been installing both the Honeywell Pro 5000 and 6000 thermostats for many years now.

The above models have an external battery compartment which can be easily removed.

1. Standing  straight in front of  your thermostat, on the top of the thermostat on the right side there is a place to press down and release the battery compartment.
2. Press down on it and tilt the compartment to the right.
3. Remove the plastic compartment and change the batteries. (Take note off the “+” and ” – ” orientation when the batteries are to be reinstalled)
4. To reinsert the compartment, start with the open side of the compartment towards the wall and tilt it back in the slot at a 45 degree angle. Then slide it back all the way to the left until you hear it snap back in and the screen comes on.
All your settings in your thermostat should have saved, but I would recommend you double check anyway.


Older model Honeywell Thermostats…

In the above examples the  batteries are not visible and will require the removal of the thermostat faceplate to expose the batteries.
Most thermostats can be removed  from the wall by applying a lift action. Start by tilting bottom first and then the top.
Hold the wall plate in place as you carefully pull the thermostat off of it. Some may have tabs at the bottom to press in, and some may have screws you need to loosen first.  If you feel like you are forcing it, STOP, you may want to look for these.
The whole unit should have come off fairly easily. If the wall plate is still attached to the wall and the batteries are visible either on the wall plate or in the thermostat you have completed this successfully.
Replace the batteries and snap the thermostat back in place.

Be careful doing this as it should not be forced, there are pins on the back of the thermostat that should not be bent or broken.
